Great Garage Trends for 2015

Garage doors today are actually quite similar to the garage doors from forty plus years ago. However, the doors are actually more efficient, and the materials used in them are of a higher quality, which is good news for homeowners. These folks normally want to have garage doors that don’t require much maintenance and that are able to reduce their annual energy expenditure by keeping the garage warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Of course, homeowners also want to have a garage door that is going to look great on their home.

Let’s look at some of the fantastic trends in garages that will hopefully continue throughout the rest of 2015.

Trend #1: Increased automation

Automation is an important part of modern lifestyle, and this should certainly continue to be applied to the garage. For example, it is possible to use smartphones and tablet apps to operate garage door openers. Different manufacturers have their own applications for various elements in the garage.

Trend #2: Getting colorful

Most garage doors that you see when driving through many neighborhoods are a boring white. However, times are changing, and people are starting to get a bit more creative with their doors. Even some of the manufacturers are getting in on this trend and making doors a variety of colors straight out of the factory. This saves the owners from having to paint the doors later. Hopefully more manufacturers will get in on this trend.

It’s getting even more creative out there, as one manufacturer is even able to place images on your garage door. While this might not be for everyone, it is an interesting option.

Something that would be nice for the future would be paint that’s actually resistant to graffiti. Some neighborhoods in urban areas, as well as some suburban locales, could really benefit from this.

Trend #3: The finishes

Many times, the garage becomes a sanctuary for someone in the family, particularly men who are looking for a place to work and sometimes even just relax. They add special flooring, storage systems, tools, and more, to give the place a special appearance. Having more options when it comes to the finishes ensures that the owner will be able to have the garage match his or her style.

Trend #4: Energy efficiency

You don’t want to spend any more on your energy bill than is absolutely necessary. Since garages today are sometimes extensions of the home, replete with furnishings, gym equipment, and work stations, it is important to make sure that the garage has proper insulation. High quality doors will need to ensure that they have plenty of insulation to help keep the temperature just right.

Trend #5: Looking out

Some windows in a garage door are nice, and you can even find some today that will match the style of the rest of the home. However, you don’t have to use a design that matches your other windows. Consider looking at some of the newer doors that are coming onto the market to see what they have to offer. For example, European‑style doors are becoming more popular in the US. The addition of more windows also allows more light to come through, as well as heat from the sun.

Garages are becoming far more than just a place to store the car. They are part of the home, and those who manufacture doors and other elements for the garage need to keep this in mind.
